Nick Grant: SUNDAY DINNER - is great (Album Review)
Honestly, going into this album I had never heard of the name Nick Grant. Nick Grant and his latest project "SUNDAY DINNER" came into my radar after I kept reading and hearing people saying this was one of the best albums of the year, so I felt like I had to check it out and give it a listen.
And Im so happy I did, Nick has certainly gained a new fan with this album. Starting off, this album is right up my lane when it comes to lyrical ability and rap melody that is showcased. If you like the more old-school Boombap or Eastcoast rap sound, then this album is a great modern version for you. Nick showcases some great wordplay and rhyme schemes throughout the whole album. The consistency on the album is really what's is impressing me the most. Both on the quality of the songs, but also the consistency of sound and vibe from start to finish of the project. There isn't really a song that I believe feels out of place, or not good enough to be on the album. Of course there is some song I enjoy more than others, but that being said I still stand by that the entirety of the project is a really enjoyable listen. The only reason for me to not give it a higher score, is that I feel like most of the songs are not really groundbreaking in a way. The sound like good rap song similar to ones I've heard before, not that that necessarily has to be a bad thing. However for me to give a song an "Amazing" score of 9 or 10, it has to really impress me in a groundbreaking way. Either way, there are two songs on this LP that I've given a score of 9. "KNOW YOUR WORTH/GRANDMA SAID" and "ALL I WANT/80'S PARENTS" are my favourites of the album, just for the beat selections, rap flows and bars like "Penny for thoughts, but I don't have any sense". However like I said before, the greatness of this project is the entirety of the album experience.
So to summarize I really enjoyed this listen and I look forward to hear what Nick Grant will produce in the future. This album is great.
